Easy Toddler Activity for Rainy Days

Published: Mar 5, 2013 · Modified: Apr 15, 2021 by Jenn · This post may contain affiliate links.

Cheap and Easy Toddler ActivityThese cold, dreary, wet, winter, rainy days are getting to me! However, thanks to Pinterest I discovered a fantastic way to keep Sweet T entertained indoors. I’m not really sure what to call this easy toddler activity, since on Pinterest it was just a picture and a description with no actual blog post. What I love about it is that it’s cheap, easy, and most moms will have all the ingredients on hand. What more can you ask for? (besides a nanny)

Indoor kid's activities can be a life saver on rainy days. Try this cheap and easy activity that's suitable for toddlers to preschoolers and older!

    You will need:
    Casserole dish
    Vinegar
    Baking Soda
    Food Coloring
    Eyedropper

Fill the bottom of a casserole dish with a thin layer of baking soda. It doesn’t take much. You just don’t want to see the glass bottom.

I added 10 drops of food coloring to 3 tablespoons of vinegar for vibrant colors. Vibrant colors also mean stained up fingers so if that’s an issue for you only use 5 drops.

Teaching a toddler to use an eyedropper is the hardest part of the process. 🙂

    Sweet T loved it!

It took her about 30 minutes to get to this point. I dumped her masterpiece and gave her a fresh slate for another 30 minutes of play. A solid hour of entertainment is pure gold for mamas. Am I right?

This easy toddler activity was cheap, and not as messy as you’d think. We’ll be repeating our baking soda/vinegar art project again very soon!
