Fried Green Beans with Horseradish Sauce

Battered and fried green beans dipped in a spicy horseradish sauce make a tasty appetizer with just the right amount of crunch.

Ingredients

  • Peanut oil for frying
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon Creole seasoning like Tony Chachere
  • 1 lb green beans trimmed
  • 1 cup buttermilk or "sour cream wash" see post
  • For Sauce
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Pour oil into an iron skillet to a depth of 1.5"-2" and heat to 375 degrees (this is medium heat on my stove with an iron skillet)
  • In a medium bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, and creole seasoning
  • Dip green beans in buttermilk then dredge in flour mixture to coat
  • Fry in batches until crisp and golden brown, approximately 3-5 minutes
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve warm
  • Make the sauce by whisking together sour cream, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce. Serve chilled
