Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup Nutella hazelnut spread
  • oil for frying
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Mix flour and salt together in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Add the milk and stir until just until the dough starts to form a ball.
  • Roll the dough to a little thinner than ¼ inch thickness. Using a cookie cutter or glass, cut out four inch circles.
  • Place about a tablespoon of Nutella in the middle of each circle. Do not spread. Fold each circle in half and seal edges together using a fork that has been dipped in cool water.
  • Heat oil in skillet to 350 degrees.
  • While the oil is heating, whisk vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar together in a small bowl to make the vanilla glaze.
  • Add pies a few at a time and fry until golden on one side. Flip and fry until golden on the other side.
  • Remove with tongs to a cooling rack and immediately apply the glaze using a pastry brush, or just sprinkle with powdered sugar if you prefer.
