When you’ve spend years either working from home alternating between a laptop on the kitchen table or a desktop that’s been put next to the crib in the baby’s room, you get a little giddy at the prospect of having an actual home office. Hubs is one talented man and created a space for me in our basement. I only wish I was half as talented at decorating as he is at renovating. Let’s walk in the door and check out this DIY home office makeover
Small Home Office Makeover
A coastal feel without the typical masculine elements of Nantucket/Cape Cod design was my goal for this small home office makeover, but I also didn’t want it to look like a beach house. This was kind of a challenge for she-who-is-not-a-home-decor-blogger, but I succeeded in creating a peaceful space to do inspired work.
CVS.com/photo provided a couple of elements for my small home office makeover including this 11 x 14 wood panel of Sweet T and me.
How perfect for the space where I do the bulk of my work for Sweet T Makes Three, right? I love that it’s UV-resistant since the sun shines on it at certain times of day. It arrived with pre-drilled mounting holes on the back, read to hang with my other gallery items.
On to my cozy corner space that’s perfect for working on the laptop, hosting a twitter party, or taking a phone call.
I fell in love with this shelf ladder bookcase from Amazon because it’s the perfect place for the printer, my essential oil diffuser as well as a few design elements.
Would you believe that the whole DIY home office makeover is based on this gold octopus? I saw him, fell in love and decided every home needs a golden octopus so I must design a room for him. It’s the little things, right? The faux piece of coral adds a nice pop of color and the mask I picked up in Venice finally has a home!
Now let’s talk about my desk and chair that Hubs DIYed
DIY Home Office Makeover
Hubs refinished and stained the top of this older, sold wood desk then spray-painted the body of it a dark blue (it’s appears slightly lighter in the photos. There’s one window in this basement office so I’ve got to work with the light I have.) The knobs are from Hobby Lobby and bring a little gold and femininity to a room that I was determined to keep feminine despite the various shades of blue in the color scheme.
We found this antique chair at a local shop downtown and it just spoke to me. Probably because, as a friend pointed out, it kind of has octopus arms. The seat was covered in green velvet, but a switch to Waverly Coral Curl fabric gave it new life!
And how fun is this “trash can?” It’s actually a basket but I think it’s perfect for paper waste.
After our DIY home office makeover, this is pretty much the only room in the house mama can be guaranteed so peace and quiet, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to plan for a little relaxation down here too. A girl can dream.
Whether you’re supplying Mom with a room makeover this Mother’s Day or a beautiful photo gift from CVS.com/photo, I hope you’ll remember to #PutMomInThePhoto from now on. Happy Mother’s Day!
