DIY Cloth Wipe Solution

When I first started cloth diapering I used disposable wipes. This only lasted a few days before I realized this method was more trouble that it was worth since after a diaper change the wipe had to go in the garbage while the cloth diaper went in the pail. Now, I’m even more hooked on cloth diaper wipes than I am cloth diapers. If I had to choose between the two I would use disposable diapers as long as I could keep my cloth diaper wipes.
Why? They are much better at cleaning up sticky poo and Sweet T’s skin seems more sensitive to disposable wipes than disposable diapers. Here’s my recipe for cloth wipe solution. Adjust the amounts depending on how many wipes you are prepping or just make the whole batch in a container with a lid and save what you don’t use for next time.

DIY Cloth Wipe Solution

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 T food-grade oil (I use hazelnut or wheat germ)
  • A few drops of lavender essential oil
  • A few drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 T unscented or lavender scented baby wash

Wisk all the ingredients together and soak the diaper wipes in the cloth diaper solution.

Wring each one out, then roll them up and place in a container with a lid. I use an empty disposable diaper wipe tub which is perfect

You can also use just plain ole water, but since I like making diaper changes a mini-spa experience I step it up a notch.

Even if you are a hard-core disposable using mama all the way, I’d still encourage you to this homemade baby wipes recipe a try. They work so much better than disposable wipes and if your baby hasn’t started solids yet you can throw them in the wash with your other laundry.
